How to create the perfect desk aesthetic for your study zone

Your desk is the place where you will be learning, doing homework, and creating. Making sure that your desk is organised will help you concentrate on the tasks at hand. Having a great desk aesthetic will make it a more enjoyable place to be around, so you will be excited and happy to be at your desk, and not feeling overwhelmed by clutter and mess.

Here are a few ways you can organise your study area to give it a more aesthetic look:

Bring colour and life to your study space.

Bring colour and life to your study space. Choose a colour theme, whether it be one colour e.g. pink, blue, or beige etc. Or multiple colours like a pastel or rainbow theme. One of the best ways to express your colour theme is by adding a few colourful accessories to your set up.

What about a new desk lamp? A lamp can be both functional if the overhead light is less than ideal, and cute. Choose the colour and style to either complement your colour theme or in a neutral tone (eg. white, beige or black) so it can be reused if you decide to change up your theme down the track.

Next, pick out a cute desk calendar that matches your decor. I doesn’t have to be in person at your local shops but by searching up cute calendar designs and picking out one that suits your aesthetic. If you can't find a desk calendar to match your theme or aesthetic, design one in Canva or Word then print it out week by week or month by month.

Finally, add some fun and functional stationery to match your style like cute pencil sharpeners, pens with adorable designs and notebooks.

Set it up to suit you

  • Raise your desk to a comfortable height. Your desk should be the right height for you to work comfortably while sitting on a chair. This will allow you to sit up straight and maintain good posture, which is important for avoiding back pain. If sitting down isn't for you, you can always try a standing desk, they allow for perfect, adjustable height, and can be used for sitting down if you just don’t have the energy to stand.
  • Use a chair that provides good back support. Sitting in front of your desk for long hours can be tiring for anyone,  especially if your chair doesn’t provide adequate back support. In order to avoid strains on your spine and neck muscles, you should use a chair with high quality lumbar support.

Get Aesthetic Organizers and Magazine Holders

Use a magazine holder to carry books and other related materials, this also helps with keeping your desk clear of clutter, while still having access to everything you need at a glance.

As well as keeping your desk from looking too messy.

Aesthetic boxes are another great way to make your study table look more organised, and they provide a place for all of your materials, from pens and pencils to scissors and rulers.

If you have a laptop, get a small laptop stand.

This will elevate your laptop, allowing you to see it more clearly and easily. Preferably look for one that has some sort of organisational space underneath it, so you can store your stuff while having it easily accessible.

You could also try using wireless devices so that they don’t take up any valuable desktop space, or use cable organisers to keep your cables neat and tidy behind your desk.

Get rid of non-essential stuff

Another thing you can do is to remove the stuff you don't normally use from your table.

Instead of having a bunch of clutter on your desk, try to find organizers or files to keep documents and receipts hidden and organized. It'll keep your space clean and make it look much more organized.

― Marie Kondo

Get sound foam

Also consider if you need to get sound foam (also known as acoustic foam) on the walls, since it will help block out any distracting noise, and make you more productive as you work.

Look for something that matches the colour of your walls (eg. white walls, get white sound foam) this will help you not get distracted and making sure your desk is the focal point, not the walls.

Making your study table aesthetic will help create a calm and productive mood.

Creating an aesthetic desk will help create a calm and productive mood in your study space.

When creating your desk aesthetic, it's important to understand that you're not just choosing between one colour or another. You're making choices based on what works for you as an individual person (which means it has nothing to do with what anyone else thinks).

Your desk should be just as unique as you.

You should now have a good idea of what makes an aesthetic desk, and as you can see, there are plenty of ways to create a beautiful environment for learning!

We were only able to cover the basics in this article so feel free to experiment with other styles, furniture choices, and lighting options until you find the perfect setup that works best for you.

Also a piece of advice to end it, you can give your desks all the style you want, but the important thing–which makes the major difference–is what you do with it. If you’re going to buy things to make your desk look more aesthetically pleasing, you should also take the time to use it for its original purpose, and that is to work hard.
